Dr Anil Kumar Singh obtained his Ph.D. in 1991 in electronics engineering from IT-BHU (now IIT-BHU). He joined Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Bangalore in November 1991 as Scientist C and worked till 5 th March 2017 in various capacities like core designer, project manager, Group Head, Divisional Officer, Project Director and Associate Director of the Lab. In October 2015 he was promoted to the post of Outstanding Scientist. He took over charge of Director, Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad on 6 th March 2017.
As a core design team member, he was responsible for establishing a comprehensive Design, analysis and manufacturing technologies for developing high performance slotted waveguide array antennas. He has been responsible for developing, qualifying and delivering various types of slotted waveguide array antennas for different radars like Multi Mode Radar for LCA, SV-2000 radar for Maritime Patrol radar, Scan imaging radar and Akash Missile seeker heads. As project manager for LCA-MMR antenna, he lead the design, qualification & certification (by RCMA/DGAQA) of the multi function antenna system and delivered large no. of ully qualified antennas to M/s ADA. He was also responsible for developing & exporting nos. of Slotted Waveguide Array Antennas to Poland for their Airborne radar Programs. As a core designer he has also developed various other antenna and feed systems like corrugated feed for Akash command guidance array, VSAT dual polarized antenna feeds (more than 200 of which was delivered to ITI) and High power dual polarised feeds (in S-band & C-band) for Doppler Weather Radar developed by ISRO.
As a Chief Designer and Project Manager, he has established Microwave Multi Beam Antenna Technology indigenously in the country thereby leading successful development & productionization of 3D Surveillance Radar Rohini (IAF), Revathi (Navy), 3D-TCR (Army) & 3D CAR (Akash Weapon System for IAF & Army) with indigenous multi beam antenna system. More than 100 nos. of these multi beam antenna systems are already produced and deployed as part of radar systems by all three services.
As Project Director of 3D Low Level Light Weight Radar Aslesha for IAF ,successfully completed design, realization, qualification, user trials, user acceptance, TOT to production agency (M/s BEL), production and induction of radars into service. Large no. of such radars are deployed and being used by Indian Armed Forces.
As Project Director of AESA Fire Control Radar , responsible for initiating the development of X-Band AESA Fire Control Radar indigenously with scalable architecture that can be adapted for various types of fighter class of airborne platforms. Towards this mainly responsible for developing the indigenous core competency in realizing the critical technologies of AESAR such as X-band Quad T/R modules (and associated MMICs), AAAU (Active Array Antenna Unit) and Exciter & Receiver subsystems.He has established mass production base of X-band QTRMs through Indian industries (both DPSU & Pvt industries) in BTP mode thereby producing large no. of T/R modules to meet various project requirements.
Dr Singh has authored more than 150 research papers in different international / national journals and symposiums. He has 3 copyrights and 10 patents to his credit. For his novel invention and significant contributions, he has been awarded NRDC (National Research Development Corporation) meritorious invention award in 1997, DRDO National Science Day commendation in 2005, DRDO Technology Group Award in 2006, DRDO award for performance excellence 2008, IETE-IRSI award in 2009, DRDO Agni award of excellence in self reliance in 2011 and IETE-CDIL award in 2014. He has also received dozens of best papers awards in various national / international conferences and many lab level awards.
